Nahunta- Laura “Margaret” Crews Thomas, 84 of Nahunta, passed away Wednesday (March 2, 2022) at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Brantley County her parents were James Irvin Crews and Lila Walker Crews. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers James Crews and Eugene Crews; 2 sisters, Billie Sue Crews and Virginia Brady; and her granddaughter, Erin Williams.
Margaret worked many years for Bank of America as a Loan Manager and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she taught childrens Sunday School for many years. She loved to cook and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Football and the Brantley County Herons.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Cecil “Forrest” Thomas, Jr., of Nahunta; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Giles (David), of Milledgeville, Sybil Dykes (Ronald), of Nahunta, Celia Horne (David), also of Nahunta, and Marcie Lee (Dale), of Waycross; 8 grandchildren, Cole Dykes (Kenzley), of Nahunta, Kenneth Horne (Kathryn), of Maryville, TN., Grant Giles, of Milledgeville, Zachary Horne, of Nahunta, Megan Giles, of Milledgeville, Shane Lee, of Waycross, Gage Horne, of Nahunta, and Addie Lee, of Waycross; 5 great grandchildren, Brody Williams, Ryder Dykes, Cash Dykes, Ayden Williams, and Colee Jane Dykes; two sisters, Kathryn Stewart, of Beaufort, SC., and Betty Davis, of Nahunta. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday (March 6, 2022) starting at 6PM at Southside Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held Monday (March 7, 2022) at 11AM at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Cochran and Bro. Ernie Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow in Twin Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cole Dykes, Kenneth Horne, Grant Giles, Zachary Horne, Gage Horne, Cody Williams, and Edward Stephens.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Shane Lee.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
