Mark Edwin Rowell

Hortense-Mark Edwin Rowell, 68 of Hortense, passed away Tuesday afternoon (February 16, 2016) at Hospice of the Golden Isles, in Brunswick, following an extended illness.

Born in Hortense, GA., his parents were Matthew Harry Rowell and Eva Mae Roberson Rowell. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Rowell, Hayward Rowell, and Herbie Rowell; two sisters, June Moreland, and Martha Nell Anderson.

Mr. Rowell was a member and served as a deacon of Satilla Missionary Baptist Church, he loved singing, fishing, riding his golf cart and going to the mountains. He was a retired supervisor for Georgia Pacific, and also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He had a love for people, and was loved by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Annette Moody Rowell, of Hortense; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony Rowell (Julie), of Nahunta; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina “Christy” Rowell Johns (Justin “Jut”), of Hickox; 5 grandchildren, Austin, Dallas, Derrick, Jayden, and Jackson; a brother-in-law, John Moreland, of Loudon, TN; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Horn (Bob), of Sante Fe, TX., and Virginia Owens, of Sterling, GA., Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Saturday (February 20, 2016) starting at 6PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday (February 21, 2016) at 3PM at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Loren Bryant and Rev. Thomas Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Satilla Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Austin Medlock, Derreck Bradshaw, Kelly Rowell, Sheldon Rowell, Jr., Tim Anderson, Tracy Moody, and George Drury.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews, Brothers-in-law, and the Men’s Sunday School Class of Satilla Missionary Baptist Church.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
