Marlene Highsmith Cleland, 73, of Nahunta, died early Thursday morning (May 20, 2010) at Southeast GA Health System, Brunswick, following a brief illness. Born in Nahunta, GA, her parents were Collis and Wilsonee Herrin Highsmith. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Lynn Griffin and a brother, Eddie Highsmith. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family, and she loved flowers. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Johnnie Cleland of Nahunta; 3 Children and their spouses, Kathy & Joey Holt of Folkston, Jamie Cleland of Nahunta and Amy and Kevin Lyons of Raybon; 2 Grandchildren, Jana & Stevie Thrower of St. George and Dusty Lyons of Raybon; a Grandchild, Jaelynn Thrower of St. George; 2 Sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean Esther Ward of Locust Grove, GA and Judy and Jim Wainright of Nahunta; also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Friday evening starting 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be Saturday morning (May 22, 2010) at 11 a.m. at Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Raybon. Pallbearers will be Allan Wainright, Jason Wainright, Robbie Cleland, Mike Peeples, Brian Peeples and Guendell F. Lee.
