Martha Evelyn Rooks

February 4, 1941 — March 9, 2014

Hortense-Martha Dailey Rooks, 73 of Hortense, passed away Sunday evening (March 9, 2014) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick following an extended illness. Born in Hempville, TX., her parents were George S. and Ida Mae Alsup Dailey. She was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. Martha attended Trinity Church of Nazarene. She worked many years in bookkeeping for Golden Shores Seafood. Martha loved reading the bible, shopping, genealogy, her children and grandchildren, and she loved packing a lunch for her husband before he went hunting. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph Franklin Rooks, of Hortense; a son, Darryl C. Rooks; 3 daughters, Cheryl Lewis, of Hortense, Donna Dowler, of Hoboken, and Genora McLeroy, of Brunswick; 16 grandchildren; Katie Rooks, Shelly Rooks, Ashley Wildes, Don Wildes, James Lewis, Crystal Lewis, Harmoni Bagley, Elijah Bagley, Christina Taylor (Joey), Joby Walker, Amber Walker, Audrey McLeroy, Blake Moore, Cecilia Moore, and Evelyn Moore; 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday (March 12, 2014) at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be Thursday (March 13, 2014) at 11AM, at Trinity Church of Nazarene with Rev. Hinton Johnson and Rev. Joey Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Waynesville. Pallbearers will be Joby Walker, James Lewis, Noah Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Joey Taylor, John Dowler, and Darryl Rooks. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
