Marvin Peeples, 82, of Nahunta, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta following an extended illness. On September 17, 1930, he was born to Connie G. and Fannie Mae Campbell Peeples in Yulee, Florida. Reared in Waynesville, he graduated from Nahunta High School in 1948, and then joined the US Navy during the Korean War and served his country until his Honorable Discharge on June 18, 1952. Then he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois, graduating February 18, 1955. He joined the I.B.E.W. and for 36 years, he worked up and down the east coast, from Kennedy Space Center to Plant Hatch to Washington, D.C., as an electrician, a job he loved! Later years, he lovingly took care of his older brother, Bubber, who was a disabled World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jeffery E. Peeples, his mother, his father and step-mother Rosa Lee Ammons Peeples, his sister Mae Peeples Morgan, and brothers Connie G. (Bubber) and Lloyd Peeples. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Mike and Tammy Peeples, of Hickox, and Brian and Alisa Peeples, of Raybon; four granddaughters Alana Peeples of Waycross, Leah Peeples of Hickox, Cassie Peeples and Hannah Peeples of Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandson, Collin Peeples, of Raybon; one great-granddaughter, Emily Peeples of Waycross; and a sister, Clara Peeples, of Waynesville. He entered the world of politics in 1994, serving as a city councilman for the City of Nahunta for one term then served as mayor for eight years, 1996 - 2003. As mayor, he was appointed as a representative to Southeast Georgia Regional Development Commission, Jan 23, 1996. He continued to serve on this board as a representative of Brantley County, appointed by the Brantley County Commissioners, and served until his health declined, December 2010. On Mar 24, 2009, he was honored for 13 years Perfect Attendance as a board member. He also served as a member on the Brantley County Development Authority, a member of the Board of Concerted Services, the Brantley County Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Nahunta Masonic Lodge.He was also a member and a deacon of Nahunta First Baptist Church. A Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (April 10, 2013) from 6PM-8 PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday afternoon (April 11, 2013) at 2 PM, at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Carson, Bishop Hugh Arnold, and Rev. Larry Altman officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Celand, Jamie Celand, Larry Morgan, Danny Carter, Johnny Chesser, and Larry Herrin. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tommy Smith.
