Mary Lee Oliver

Hortense – Mrs. Mary Lee Oliver, 84, of Hortense passed away early Friday morning (February 23, 2024) at her residence following an extended illness.

Born in Waycross, GA. her parents were Gilford Strickland and Myrtice Corene Arnold Strickland. She is also preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Oliver; a grandchild, Katina Chesser; and several siblings.

Ms. Mary was a homemaker and a member of Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, family gatherings, and fishing. She loved taking care of others , going on vacation and was a rock collector.

Survivors include her husband, John Oliver of Hortense; 1 son and daughter-in-law, John C. Oliver, Jr. (Ruby) of Hortense; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Trowell (Willis) of Hortense, Diane Chapman (Sean) of Brunswick, Brenda Ashley (Jeff) of Nahunta; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Oliver of Hortense;14 grandchildren, Betty Ann Chesser, Revis Chesser, Michael Trowell, Stephanie Oliver, Samantha Popwell, Stacey Rhoden, Selina Oliver, J.C. Oliver, Jennifer Wilson, Robert Oliver, Sarah Oliver, Alisa Deen, Brandi Lane, and Christy Davis Ashley; many many great grandchildren; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Robert Strickland (Bertha) of Darien; a special aunt, Hazel Rogers; a special sister-in-law, Genny Raulerson; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held 45 minutes prior to the service on Saturday (February 24, 2024) starting at 2:15PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Saturday (February 24, 2024) at 3PM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Bishop Raymond Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Rivers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Corey Wilson, Philip Popwell, Gavin Popwell, J.C. Oliver, Reece Dixon, and Evan Dixon.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
