Maurice Smith Scoggins

Waynesville- Maurice Smith Scoggins, 86 of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday morning (January 18, 2017) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in West Armuchee, GA., his parents were Dennis Scoggins and Nellie Smith Scoggins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise Hinch Scoggins; two infant sons, Barry and Garry Scoggins; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Gail Scoggins; grandson, Scott Underwood; granddaughter, Jessica Thompson; sister, Kathryn Pryor; and son-in-law, James Baker.

Mr. Scoggins was a member of Waynesville Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved tinkering. He Retired from LCP Chemical, where he worked many years as a Bleach Plant Operator.

Survivors include his five daughters and their spouses, Claire and Wayne Thompson, of Waynesville, Daire and Ken Smith, of Brunswick, Mollie and Dickie Whisenant, of Waynesville, Kathy and Henry Allen, of Lake Sinclair, GA, and Lisa Baker, of Waynesville; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; niece and nephews, Sue and Jim Simpson, of Atlanta, and Gene Capehart, of Rock Spring, GA.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening (January 19, 2017) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday afternoon (January 20, 2017) at 2PM at Waynesville Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Carr and Rev. Larry Altman officiating.

Burial will follow in Emmanuel Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Todd, Bryant Lee, Sean Tindall, Travis Tindall, Paul Cook, and Terry O’Banion.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Harrington Track Hunting Club.

Family and pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Friday by 1:30PM.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
