Melton” Billy” Smith, 68 of Waynesville, passed away Thursday (December 31, 2015) at his residence.
Born in Screven, GA., his parents were Felix Furman “Ted” Smith and Eula Estelle Tomlinson Smith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Smith and Marvin Smith; a sister, Laurie Flowers, a niece, Connie Smith, and a nephew, Erick Smith.
Billy graduated from Nahunta High School in 1965. He served as a Captain in the United States Army, where he was awarded a Bronze Star in Vietnam as well as several other service medals. He was a carpenter by trade and was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved his friends and family.
Survivors include his son, William Smith, of Patterson; his daughter, Angie Steedley, of Nahunta; seven grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Robbie Smith, Amber Smith, Ian Smith, Tori Akins, Lindsay Steedley, and Joshua Steedley. Billy also had several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (January 9, 2016) at 11AM at Twin Rivers Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor William Smith officiating.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
