Melvin 'Floyd' Johns

Hickox – Mr. Melvin “Floyd” Johns, 73, of Hickox passed away Saturday afternoon (October 15, 2016) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.

Born in Hickox, GA his parents were Archie A. and Ethel Hickox Johns. He is also preceded in death by his son, Terry Johns; and 2 brothers, Richard H. Johns and Carroll Johns.

Mr. Johns was employed by Gilman Kraft Bag/Gilman Building Products for 44 y ears. He was a member of Hickox Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until his health prevented him from doing so. Floyd loved his family, going to church, and being with his church family. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mila Dean Manning Johns of Hickox; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynnette & Perry Herrin of Hickox; 2 grandchildren, Brandon Johns and Jenna Herrin both of Hickox; a brother and sister-in-law, A.J. & Carole Johns of Jacksonville, FL; 5 sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy & Fred Spivey of St. George, Iona & Hubert Proctor of Brunswick, Virginia Sikes of Waycross, Marie & Ephraim Johnson of Patterson, and Nora Faye Carlson of Hilliard, FL; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Monday evening (October 17, 2016) starting at 6pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon (October 18, 2016) at 3PM at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Giddens and Rev. Edward Colley officiating. Burial will follow in Dowling Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Royce Proctor, Greg Sikes, Ricky Johns, Keith Johnson, Kyle Johns, and Byron Johns. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Hickox Baptist Church.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
