Michael Shane Stokes, 53 of Thalmann, GA died Thursday night (April 30, 2009) at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick following a lengthy illness. Born in Glynn Co, GA, his parents are Thelma Burnett Stokes and the late Louis Dunwoody Stokes. He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a lineman for Georgia Power Company. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and loved fishing, hunting, racing and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by a Daughter, Stacey O'Quinn and a Grandson, Layton O'Quinn both of Browntown Community; his mother, Thelma Stokes of Thalmann; a Sister, Connie Stokes of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; 2 Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Larry and Becky Stokes and Barry and Brenda Stokes both of Hortense; 4 nieces, a nephew and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Graveside services will be Sunday afternoon (May 3, 2009) at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Waynesville with Rev. Ronnie Clark officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mel Rowell, Sammy Harrison, Greg McCranie, Fred Smith, Leslie Rooks and Jeffrey Stokes. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com
