Muriel Jean Proctor Spikes, 77 of Nahunta died Sunday morning, (December 11, 2011) at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, following an extended illness. Born in Waynesville, GA her parents were Joshua Ellwood & Isabelle Dixon Proctor. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 31 years Bobby Spikes; a son, Gerald Knox; 2 grandchildren, Joshua Knox and Christopher Horne; 2 brothers W.A. Proctor and Elwood Proctor. She was first married to David Junior Knox, they had 11 children together. Ms. Spikes was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Lulaton Baptist Church. She loved to have family gatherings, she loved cooking and gardening. She loved the Lord and came to accept Him as her personal savior many years ago. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She was a homemaker, provider, devoted wife, mother and grandmother full of love. She never met a stranger and if you came to her home you had to eat. She worked in the food industry for many years after her children were all in school. Ms. Spikes kept a box of newspaper clipping that was full of pictures and articles from most everyone she ever knew. It was her photos and memory box that she loved to look through and reminisce. She had a simple soul. She found joy and peace in the little things. Survivors include her children; David Knox of St. Simons Island, GA, Wayne (Gail) Knox of Brunswick, GA, Donald Knox, Gary "Gene" (Diane) Knox, Sr. ,and Joseph Knox, all of Nahunta, Ricky (Trixie) Knox of Manor, Ga, Earl (Trina) Knox, Nelda (Robert) Manning, Ann (Dennis) Horne, all of Kingsland, Ga, Trisha Trouille of Folkston, GA., also 4 Step-children;2 Brothers, J.C. Proctor of Waynesville, and Mickey Proctor of Drysdale, Tenn. 20 grand children, 28 great grand children. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (December 14, 2011) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2PM, at Lulaton Baptist Church with Rev. Monroe Gill, Bro. Michael Foreman, and Rev. Ricky Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery, Blackshear. Pallbearers will be David Knox, Jr., Jason Knox, Justen Harden, Gary Elwood Knox, Gary Eugene Knox, Jr., Ben Knox, Timmy Knox, Chae Pohoreskey, Carl Horne, and Mike Trouille. The family would like to give a special "Thank you" to Ann Pryor, The Mahoney family, Dennis Horne, Major Strickland, Melody Padgett, Janet & Lamar Harden, Jeremy Davis, Dr. Diaz, South East GA Health System of Brunswick, Hospice of the Golden Isles, Dr. Tannis Aligood, Gertrude Knox and the staff of Bayview Nursing Home.
