Perry Ulysses Rozier

Perry Ulysses Rozier, 92, of Hortense died early Saturday morning (January 16, 2010) at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended illness. Born in Waynesville, GA his parents were William (Willie) Avery and Mae King Rozier. He is also preceded in death by his wives, Lola Harper Rozier and Louise Snavely Rozier; and numerous brothers and sisters. In 1964 he was elected to the office of Brantley Co. Ordinary. He served eight years. During his term the title was changed. This change automatically made him the last "ordinary and the first "Probate Judge" of the Brantley Co. Probate Court. After 16yrs of service he retired as the Brantley Co. Probate Judge. Perry has given his time in serving as a volunteer for many worthy causes including American Cancer Society, Heart Fund Drives and transportation of patients to hospitals and doctors. He assisted with dedication of Hortense Post Office and was a supporter of the Ervin Field Athletic Project, Soil Conservation, Farm Bureau and Cattleman's Association. Perry was a charter member of the Lion's Club, past President of the Local Chapter of AARP, member of the Executive Committee of the Okefenokee Piedmont Baptist Association and a member of the Masonic and Shriners organizations. Perry served on advisory committee's of U.S. Congressman, Bill Stuckey; served on Governor Lester Maddox's committee of "1,000 Men"; and served on Governor Jimmy Carter's Advisory Committee. He also was a charter member of Twin Rivers Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 55 plus years. In his spare time he loved gardening. He is survived by, 2 children and a daughter-in-law, Wendol and Martha Rozier of Hortense and Wanda Drury of Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Vicki and Andy Riggins of Hortense, Michael and Ronda Brinson of Brunswick, Byron Rozier and Jason Rozier both of Hortense; 7 great grandchildren, Laura and Jonathan Brauda and Ethan Riggins all of Hortense, Mikey, Mikala, Mikinley Brinson, Karleigh and Gaven Rozier of Nahunta; 2 brothers, Franklin Rozier of Blackshear and Tom Peak Rozier of Texas; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday night (January 18, 2010) from 6PM-until at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning (January 19, 2010) starting at 11AM at Twin Rivers Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Byron Rozier, Michael Brinson, Andy Riggins, Ethan Riggins, Jonathan Brauda and Mikey Brinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the entire staff of Bayview Nursing Home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com
