Phillip Randy Turner

Arizona-Randy Turner, age 60 of Arizona, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday (December 15, 2012). Born Phillip Randall Turner on June 10, 1952, son of the late Leila Hickox Turner. He was raised in Nahunta, GA. with the help of maternal grandmother, Beulah Crews Hickox. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Dube Hickox; Uncles John Henry and Lonnie Hickox and Aunt Pearlie Griffin. Randy joined the Marines in 1970 after graduation from Brantley County High School. He served as a Sergeant in Vietnam. After service in the military he settled in Bull Head City, Arizona, where he resided until his death. Randy served in many community organizations including Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. Randy's love for the children in his community was as great as his passion for serving as a dedicated member of the Boys & Girls Club of the Colorado River, serving in every Board position over the years. He was also president of the State Alliance (an Association of the Arizona Boys & Girls Club.) He also officiated at High School sporting events. Randy built a successful insurance agency and served in various positions of leadership in professional organizations in the insurance field. He is survived by his beloved Maria Del Carmen Lopez Velazquez and her children, Mychal Brenton and Brittany Michelle (her twins); and Brittany's son Devon; Cousins Ann Jones and Peggy Sanders of Hoboken, Ga.; Deloyce Underwood and Johnny Hickox of Brunswick, Ga.; Shirley Crews of Waycross, Ga.; and Ronnie Hickox of Dandridge, Tn. Other surviving family members include godsons, Blake Brissette-Mathias of Las Vegas, Nv. and Brandley Nelson Shaw of Bullhead City, Az.; and great-godson Colton Randall Brissette-Mathias, as well as special friends Tom Gibson, Donna Rutledge, Belinda Brissette-Mathias and numerous friends and relatives from both Georgia and Arizona. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26th, from 5:00-8:00pm at Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 27th, at First Baptist Church of Nahunta at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randy Carson and Dr. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Jones, Jr., Derek Jones, Johnny Hickox, Jack Wilson, Tony Ham, and Steve Dykes. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Brantley County High School Graduating Class of 1970.
