Rachel Burden

January 11, 1924 — September 14, 2009

Mrs. Rachel Rawlins Burden, 85, of Nahunta died Monday night (September 14, 2009) at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended illness. Born in Broxton, GA her parents were the late Jesse C. and Rhoda Carver Rawlins. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Marion Burden; a daughter, Martha Burden Davis; two grandchildren, Lance Griffin and Shannon Davis; three brothers, John Rawlins, J.J. Rawlins and Robert Rawlins; and a sister, Eva Kate McLane. She taught school for 30yrs before retiring and was a member of Nahunta First Baptist Church and attended Sunday School for 20yrs. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Georgia Association of Educators. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Marion and Jonnie & Jack Wilson both of Nahunta; four grandchildren and their spouses, Ronda & Louis Lombardi of Flowery Branch, GA, Brian & Angela Steedley of Nahunta, Amber & Byron Fields of Jesup and Yancy Lane of Nahunta; 10 great grandchildren, Rachel and Tyler Lombardi of Flowery Branch, GA, Lindsay & Joshua Steedley, Tori Aiken all of Nahunta, Jesse & Lancie Blanchard of Jesup, Della, Catera, and Martha Lane all of Hoboken; a brother and sister-in-law, Hoke & Beverly Rawlins of Broxton, GA; a sister, Willie Lewis Rockville, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Ruth Rawlins of Broxton, GA; also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Wednesday night (September 16, 2009) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahutunta. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning (September 17, 2009) at 11AM at Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Carson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Raybon. Pallbearers will be Cleve Wilson, Larry Altman, Keith Strickland, Kleve Mathie, David Herrin, Van Herrin, Quinton Davis, Hubert Wilson and Bill Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be all retired school teachers and educators and Nahunta First Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
