Rachel Virginia "Dinky" Byrd

Waycross- Rachel Virginia “Dinky” Crews Byrd, 70, of Waycross, passed away Monday (June 19, 2023) at Altamaha Healthcare in Jesup, GA.

Born in Folkston, GA., her parents were Wilbur Crews and Clara Cooper Crews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Colvin Byrd; a daughter, Tina Johnson; a brother, Ivey Jackson Crews; and a sister, Judith Neil Crews.

Rachel worked many years as a Bus Driver for Charlton and Brantley County Schools. She was a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin Thrift (Kelly), of Riverside, Steven Thrift (Megan), of Winder, GA.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca Harris, of Waycross, Chrissy Thrift, of Jesup, and Susan Zuniga (Isreal), of Riverside; 15 grandchildren, Rachelle Thigpen, B.J. Dasher, Faith Allen, Alexis Foreman, Landis Harris, Terrell Thrift, Remy Thrift, Christopher Thrift, Maya Lewis, Madison Farmer, Peyton Reed, Megan Reed, Rachelynn Bivens, Martin Zuniga, and Petra Zuniga; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Tammy Howard, of Folkston; special aunts, Lydia Burch, of Hickox, Edna Rowell and Virginia Singley, both of Alabama. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (June 21, 2023) from 6PM-9PM at Frye Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday (June 22, 2023) at 10AM at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Martin Zuniga, Landis Harris, Peyton Reed, B.J. Dasher, Gage Kersey, Terrell Thrift and Hunter Foreman.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
