Brunswick-Raymond Edward Keithcart, Jr., 89 of Brunswick, died early Friday morning (April 6, 2012) at his residence, following an extended illness. Ray was born April 6, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri, his parents were Raymond Edward, Sr. and Margaret Schriner Keithcart. He is also preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Colleen Moore Keithcart, and 2 brothers, at a young age; He graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. He was a veteran, having retired from the U. S. Navy after serving his country during World War II and the Korean War as an aviator and one of only 2 officers to be made honorary member of FRA. He worked for Glynn County and retired from Family and Children's Services. He was a member of VFW, Shriner, Masonic Lodge, and the American Legions for over 60 years and an active member of Emanuel United Methodist Church. Also he loved to play tennis. Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Peggy Sue Chamberlain Keithcart, of Brunswick; 8 children & their spouses, Margaret Jane "Peggy" Higginson, of Stateville, NC, Kaleen & Dave Dixon, of Destin, Fl; William A. & Irene Keithcart, of Essex Juction, VT, Kerry Edward & Elizabeth Keithcart, of Stockton, CA; Kevin Dyer and Angela Keithcart, of Brunswick; Eric Engler, Carrie Emmanuel, both of Brunswick, and Geoffrey & Meagan Engler, of Denver, CO; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer & Sean Bowen, Chris & Hilary Dixon, David & Brittany Dixon, Hilary, Monica, Vanessa, Chaz, and Seth Keithcart, Courtney Engler, Katee Hopper and Braedon Engler; 5 great grandchildren, Carter, Mabry, Liam, Taylor, and Hailey Dixon; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Funeral Service will be held Monday morning (April 9, 2012) at 11AM at Emanuel United Methodist Church, in Brunswick, with Rev. Carl Barnhart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Emanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearer will be Steve Pittman, Bob Tatum, Joe Hale, James Mikell, Jack Jones, and J.C. Carter. It was Ray's request that no flowers be sent, In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Emanuel United Methodist Church, 245 Ratcliff Rd. Brunswick, Ga. 31523.
