Raybon – Rev. Leon Wilford Wilson, 88, of Raybon passed away Wednesday evening (August 30, 2023) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Nahunta, GA his parents were Lonnie Wilson and Gladys Roberts Wilson. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Cleve Wilson; 2 sisters, Barbara Ann Vaughn, Camalee Wilson; son-in-law, Tony Hickox; daughter-in-law, Lori Hartinger; grandson-in-law, Eric Johns.
Rev. Leon worked for Babcock & Wilcox for 30 years as a welding supervisor and then retired from Ga. Power. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nahunta. He was a retired pastor, loved gardening, teaching Sunday school, fishing, woodworking, and being a counselor for anyone.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Cross Wilson; 2 sons, Michael Wilson of Raybon, Larry Wilson of St. Mary’s; 3 daughters and son-in-law, Gail Brooker (Derwin), Patty Hickox, Lisa Wilson all of Raybon; 8 grandchildren, April Wolfe (Casey) of Blackshear, Jeremy Brooker of Nahunta, Megan Ince (Sean) of Woodbine, Jessica Dixon (Matthew) of Atkinson, Reed Wilson (Ali) of Nahunta, Chloe Wilson of Athens, Avery Wilson of Wedowee , Al., Melissa Dean (Alex) of Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Corbet Wilson (Lulu) of Raybon; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday (September 2, 2023) starting at 2PM at Nahunta First Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held Saturday (September 2, 2023) at 3PM at Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Dean and Rev. Jake Baum officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Morgan, Colt Stallings, Eil Wolfe, Ayden Jacobs, Calvin Herrin, and Sean Ince.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles 1692 Glynco Parkway Brunswick, GA 31525 or Called to Care Brantley.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
