Waynesville – Rev. William “Bill” Riley Johns, Sr., 75, of Waynesville passed away Thursday (June 20, 2024) at his residence.
Born in Folkston, GA. his parents were Moncie Riley Johns and Betty Jean O’Quinn Johns. He is also preceded in death by 2 sons, William Johns, Jr., Moncie Lamar Johns; brother, Jerry Lamar Johns.
Bro. Bill has been a pastor for a total of 33 years. His first church was Hoboken Church of God and he now was pastor of Palmetto Pentecostal Church. He was retired from the Brantley Co. School working in automotives for 25 years. He loved fishing, working on cars but most of all he loved his family. Bro. Bill loved being a pastor and he was known for being a peer for all his students at the school. He took all of them under his wing.
Survivors include his wife of 52 yrs., Brenda Faye O’Berry Johns of Waynesville; 1 son, Michael Johns of Waynesville; a daughter, Felisha Johns Ponsell of Brunswick; 9 grandchildren, Haley Johns, Madison Johns, Alexis Johns, Kaleigh Ponsell, Weylin Johns, Chelsea Ponsell, Liam Johns, Riley Ponsell, Keran Johns; 3 great grandchildren, Hayden Dutka , Hadlee Dutka, Emmaline Dutka; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Otis Johns (Rose) of Nahunta, Adam Johns (Pam); 5 sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Whaley (Rev. Tommy) of Darien, Mona Jean Wainright (Rev. James) of Nahunta, Debbie Allbritton (Rev. Grady) of St. George, Sandy Broxton (Rusty) of Folkston, Joyce Long (David) of Nahunta; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (June 26, 2024) from 6-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning (June 27, 2024) at 11AM at Hickox Praise and Worship with Rev. Grady Allbritton and Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Bachlott cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Spradley, Chubby Spradley, Nick Daniels, Riley Ponsell, Lynn Graham, Wayne Johnson and David Allbritton.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
