Rhonda Dian Lewis Nettles, 69, of St. George, Georgia, died peacefully early Sunday, April 26, 2015, at her residence after fighting a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at New Life Baptist Church, 1058 Wheeler Street, St. George, with the Reverend James Conner officiating. Born on August 4, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Charles Lewis and the late Mildred Houston Lewis. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and had been a resident of St. George since 1995, coming from Callahan, Florida, where she had resided for many years. Rhonda retired from Nassau County Health Department, as Medical Records Clerk, after 35 years of dedicated service. She had also worked as a teacher's aide at Callahan Intermediate School. While a member of First Baptist Church, Boulougne, Florida, she sang in the choir, worked as cast and crew and was an honorary member of the G.B.C. Club of the renowned production, "The Lamb." She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church. Rhonda had a zest for life and in her spare time enjoyed organizing and hosting themed parties. Her talent of decorating for such events, and particular way of doing things, was clearly obvious, transporting party-goers back into the day and time. Her personality was contagious; she loved people unconditionally. Rhonda was a true matriarch of her family. Though she battled many years with sickness and pain, her faith sustained her until the very end, never once having wavered in her commitment to family and God. Rhonda's gentle soul and kind spirit served as a source of strength to all those that knew her and loved her. Thanks be to God for her life; a life well lived. She has fought a good fight and has kept the faith, and now has received her glorious reward. Survivors are her loving husband of 45 years, Joe Scriven Nettles of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Traci and Donnie Conner of St. George, GA, Jackie and Joel Davis of Nicholls, GA, and Margie and Eddie Davis of Alma, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Michelle Nettles of St. Augustine, FL, and Mike and Genie Nettles of Hilliard, FL; a sister, Betty Harrison of Jacksonville, FL; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and host of friends; and her loving pet and companion, Smokey. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Rhonda's memory to the family, 498 Buckshot Road, St. George, GA, 31562.
