Richard 'Fat' J. Boatwright

Hortense-Richard James "Fat" Boatwright, 81, of Hortense, passed away Saturday morning (August 3, 2013) at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Pierce County, Georgia he was the son of Tom and Evener Adams Boatwright. Mr. Boatwright was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Verlie Allen Boatwright, 2-grandchildren, Kayla Taft and Jessica Davis, and several Brothers and Sisters. He was retired from B & W as a welder, and had worked some with The Brantley County Road Department. Camping and fishing was his favorite pass time. Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Susan Boatwright, of Claxton, GA., 4-daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Darrell Davis, of Kingsland, GA., Judy and Clayton Taft, of Douglas, GA., Deloris Boatwright, Janice and Victor Mercer, all of Hortense, 7-grandchildren and their spouse, Richard Boatwright (Autumn), of Raleigh, N.C., Darrell Davis (Alicia), of Kingsland, James Davis, of Kingsland, Katrina Taft and Bubba Taft, of Douglas, Cameron Mercer and Seth Mercer, of Hortense, 6-Great-Grandchildren, Owen Boatwright, Averi and Trenton Davis, Hunter Stevens, Ryder and Ryleigh Mercer, 7-Brothers and Sisters, Bessie Anderson, of Formoso, Kansas, Alice Lane, of Greenville, S.C., Essie Rodrigues, of Brunswick, Otis Boatwright, of Hortense, Harry Boatwright, of Hortense, Thomas Boatwright, of Brunswick and Bertha Forbes, of Medford, Oregon, also several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Sunday (August 4,2013) starting @ 6 PM @ The Hortense Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral Services will be held Monday afternoon (Aug. 5,2013) at 2 P.M. from The Hortense Church of God of Prophecy with Re. Rob Hutto, Rev. R.C. Mathis & Rev. Hinton Johnson. Burial will follow in The Satilla Cemetery in Hortense. Pallbearers will be Chris Taylor, Derrell Davis, James Davis, Bubba Taft, Seth Mercer and Cameron Mercer. Honorary Pallbearers are The Brantley County Road Department Employees, South Georgia Hospice Staff and Nephews. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
