Hortense – Robert Louis Gibson, 84, of Hortense passed away Monday afternoon (January 4, 2021) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.
Born in Poteau, OK his parents were Dee and Clara Gibson. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Faith Emily Sweat Gibson; a son, Robert Dewayn Gibson; and his siblings.
Robert served and retired from the United States Coast Guard as Chief Petty Officer and later retired from Haven Manufacturing. He was a member of Waynesville Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family, reading and fishing.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tracy & Tina Gibson of Hortense; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise & James Head of Waverly; 7 grandchildren, Kelly Gibson (Brittany) of Hortense, Dena Morgan (Joel Mathis) of Hortense, Sara Tillman (Marqus) of Waynesville, Ashley Rhoden (Zach) of Ila, Mara Gibson of Hortense, Adam Head of Waverly, and Abby Head of Waverly; 9 great grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Due to the COVID-19, we would like to ask all to please follow the rules for social distancing and face mask are highly recommended at visitation and the service. Also, anyone who does not feel comfortable with attending the services the family would like for you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
Visitation will be Friday evening (January 8, 2021) from 6-8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon (January 9, 2021) at 3pm at Waynesville Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Whitaker Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Butler, Shannon Gibson, Wayne Burcham, Byron Johns, Kelly Bare and Pat Evans.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
