Hortense-Shirley Jean Strickland Duggan, 77, of Hortense passed away early Sunday morning (August 15, 2021) at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Hortense, GA. her parents were Gilford and Myrtice Arnold Strickland.
She is also preceded by her husband, Benjamin “Ben” John Duggan; 1 daughter, Norma Jean Moody; 4 brothers, Jobo Strickland, Jerry Strickland, James Henry Strickland, and John Ancil Strickland; 1 sister; Barbara Wright
Mrs. Shirley was employed with the Brantley County School Board for 20 some years as a bus driver . She was a member of the Philadelphia Wesleyan Church. She loved watching the news going to church and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her 5 sons and their spouses, Edward Oliver (Tammis) of Manor, GA.; Timmy Oliver of Hortense; Dean Oliver (Becky) of Sterling; Wayne Oliver (Diane) of Manor, GA.; and Harry Oliver of Hortense; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a sister and her spouse; Mary Lee Oliver (John) of Hortense; a brother and his spouse, Robert Strickland (Bert) of Darien, GA. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday (August 18, 2012) 2 PM at Hortense Cemetery.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday (August 18, 2021) at 3 PM at Hortense Cemetery with Rev. Sheldon Rowell, Sr. officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brock Oliver, Cason Oliver, Little Dean Oliver, Warren Moody, Dawson Taylor, and Alton Oliver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Little Brody Moody and the Brantley County Bus Drivers.
Due to COVID-19, we would like to ask all to please follow the rules for social distancing, also face mask are highly recommended at the service. Anyone who does not feel comfortable with attending the service the family would like you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
