Shirley Howard

Hortense-Shirley Jean Moody Howard, 73 of Hortense, passed away Wednesday (May 7, 2014) at Senior Care Center of Brunswick following an extended illness. Born in Brunswick, GA, her parents were Menbry Moody and Mattie Jane Lee Moody. She is also preceded by 2 brothers, Clinton "Tulley" Moody and Thomas "Limo" Moody. Shirley worked many years as a hairdresser, and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Satilla Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Levi Gordon Howard, of Hortense; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Angela Denise Allen (Powell), of Jekyll Island, GA, and Renee Lang, of Brunswick; 6 grandchildren, Christa Stan, of St. Simons Island, GA, Nicholas Stan, of South Korea, Lindsay Moran, of Charleston, SC, Courtney Lang, of Brunswick, Taylor Moran, of Brunswick, and Tyler Lang, of Brunswick; 1 great granddaughter, Madison Hall, of Brunswick; 2 brothers, James Moody, of Brunswick, and Kenneth Moody, of Hortense; Also a special nephew, Simon Moody, of Brunswick. Visitation will be held Saturday evening (May 10, 2014) starting at 6PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday afternoon (May 11, 2014) at 2 PM at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Brinkley, Rev. Sammy Spradley, and Pastor Loren Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Satilla Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Tripp, Sammy Davis, Elkin Strickland, Buddy Sellers, Tyler Lang, and Daniel Herrin. All pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Sunday by 1:30 PM. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammy Lee, Dr. Mitchell Jones, Dr. Kay, Dr. Fernandez, and the nurses of the PCCU Unit at Southeast Georgia Health System.
