Waynesville-Mr. Spencer George Drury,91,of Waynesville died Friday afternoon (Apr. 1, 2011) at his residence after a extended illness. Born in Waynesville his parents were Samuel Cleyborn Mills Drury and Nevada Jacobs Drury. Mr. Drury retired from the Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a Scout, he received The WW II Victory Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and also The Philippine Service Medal. Mr. Drury was a member of The Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon in the pass. He loved fishing, gardening and just getting out and riding around reminiscing. Preceded in death by his parents, 4-brothers, Morris, Bill, Vernon and Marvin Drury, 6-sisters, Elouise Yancey, Thelma Coleman, Bealuah Blocker, Daisy Middleton, Vera Church and Myrtis Drury. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vivian Harrell Drury, of Waynesville, a son and daughter-in-law, Joe Stanley and Lyn Drury, of Waynesville, his daughter, Janice Drury Hannah, of Waynesville, an extra ordinary nephew, Sammy Drury, 3-sisters, Lucille Parker, of Jacksonville, Fl., Louise Drury, of Waynesville and Christine Brizendine, of Brunswick, 6-grandchildren, Joe Drury (Sabrina), Wendy Welch-Olivares (Paul), Ronald Drury (Jessica), Donald Drury (Robin), Christopher Drury (Jessica) and Crystal Thomas (Will), also numerous great-grandchildren, and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening starting at 6 P.M. at the Frye Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Drury will be Wednesday morning (Apr. 6, 2011) at 11 A.M. from the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta with Rev. Larry Altman and Rev. Larry Harris officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in The Mt. Olive Cemetery in Waynesville. Pallbearers will be Joe, Chris, Ronald, Donald and David Drury and Jim Bo Jones. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home of Nahunta. Honorary will be Sammy Drury, Bea Robinson, Laura Lee, Clinton Sweat, Bob Gibson, Bernie Linton and Doug Church.
