Nahunta - Thomas Dewitt Dowling, Sr., 55, of Nahunta died Wednesday morning (September 30, 2015) at his residence after an extended illness. Born in Waycross, GA his parents are the late Glynwood Dowling and Mercedes Jacobs Dowling of Nahunta. Thomas was a manager for Sears and retired from the United States Navy. He was of the Baptist faith and loved playing golf and computer games. Survivors include his wife of 9 years, Judy Ann King Dowling of Nahunta; a son, Thomas Dowling, Jr., of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica & Chris Clark of Blackshear; a stepson, Tim Grantham of Douglas; a stepdaughter, Beth Bowles of Waycross; 6 grandchildren, Gini Bowles, Natalie Boyett, Audrey Boyett, Ty Grantham, Kyler Grantham, and Riley Quinn Clark; mother, Mercedes "Mert" Dowling of Nahunta; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Linda Dowling of Nahunta; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Diane Herrin of Nahunta and Pat & Dan Tompkins of Hoboken; and also several other relatives. Visitation will be held Friday evening (October 2, 2015) starting at 6pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon (October 3, 2015) at 3pm at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Johns officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Miller, Darren Miller, Charlie Simmons, Justin Smith, David Smith, and David DeLozier. Honorary pallbearers will be the Brantley County Class of 1978 and the Golfers at Lakeview Golf Club in Blackshear. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
