Tommy Lane, 78, of Hortense passed away Sunday morning, October 29, 2023, at his daughter’s residence in Blackshear after a short illness. He was born in Hortense to the late J. W. and Della Crews Lane and lived in Hortense all of his life. Mr. Lane retired from Rayonier and also from J.L. Logging. He was of the Church of God faith. Mr. Lane enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching wrestling, collecting guns, knives and coins, and most of all spending time with his family and looked forward to his weekly card games.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Tommy “Toby” Darren Lane, one sister, Florence Pearson, mother of his children, Tavares Ruth Tatum; a special friend, Alice Kinlaw, and two grandsons, Jared and Jacob Morrison.
Survivors include six daughters and sons-in-law, Danita Turpin (Mark) of Bay City, Michigan, Daphne Lane Crews (Jonathan Reed) of Nahunta, Sheila Lane of Hoboken, Sharon Morrison (Randy) of Blackshear, Charity Lane of Hortense, and Crystal Smith (Josh) of Homerville; sixteen grandchildren, Della Allen (Ross), Catera Lane Dixon (Adam), Martha Lane, Zach Turpin, Connor Turpin, Michael Mathie (Kayla), Martin Mathie (Mary), Cody Crews, Mitchell Crews (Sierra), Kira Crews, Josh Lane, Skylar Morrison, Dustin Morrison (Angel), Crista Gibson (Steven), Brooke Daniels (Shane Kindle), and Lexie Smith; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; one sister, Janell Kenna of St. Cloud, FL; three brothers, Hubert Lane (Glenda) of Hortense, Jimmy Lane (April) of Hortense, and Jackie Lane of Hortense; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (November 1, 2023) from 6 until 8 pm at Frye Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon (November 2, 2023) at 2 pm at Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating.
Burial will follow in Bachlott Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Zach Turpin, Connor Turpin, Michael Mathie, Martin Mathie, Cody Crews, Mitchell Crews, and Josh Lane.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta, GA.
