Valerie Marie Smith, 35 of Hortense, passed away Thursday (May 21, 2015) at Mayo Clinic Health System following a brief illness. Born in Jesup, GA., her parents are Richard Allen Smith, of Atkinson, and the late Glenda Mae Johns Davis. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Kermit and Lula Mae Johns; paternal grandfather, Rev. Ronald Sharpe, paternal step-grandfather, Bill Davis, and nephew, Andre Mariscal. Valerie was a homemaker, and enjoyed reading, going to the river, camping, and spending time with family and friends. Her kids meant everything to her. Survivors include her significant other of 17 years, Mike McMillan, of Atkinson; 3 children, Zachary Dale Smith, Tristian Gage Smith, and Kaylee Mae McMillan; 4 step children, Michael Cory McMillan, of Kentucky, Tina Marie Taylor (Chris), of Waycross, Tiffany Hicks (Pattrick), of Waycross, and Tabitha McMillan, of Kentucky; her father, Richard Smith, of Atkinson; stepfather, David Michael Davis, of Baxley; paternal grandmother, Betty Sharpe, of Hickox; paternal step grandmother, Debbie Davis, of Atkinson; sister, Serena Jane Mariscal, of Hickox; and a brother, Allen Wayne Smith of Nahunta. Also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday (May 28, 2015) at 11AM at Bachlott Community Church with Rev. Eric Dixon and Rev. Bruce Dean officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Bachlott Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Herrin, Robbie Batten, Demarus Johns, Dale Johns, William Lane, and Cole Johns. Family and Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Thursday by 10:30AM. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Sympathy may be expressed by signing our online registry at fryefh.com.
