Virdie Pearl Goodin Altman of Hoboken passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Monday, November 12th, 2012. She was born on December 28th, 1927 to Roy Charles Goodin and Martha Mae Bruce Goodin, and grew up in Luna, New Mexico. In 1946, she met Hoboken native Ellis David Altman, then stationed with the United States Air Force in Albuquerque; the two married, and she moved with him back to Hoboken, where she lived for the rest of her life. Virdie was well-known for her love of plants and her horticultural knowledge, and even better known as a gifted seamstress who also possessed an enormous talent for crocheting; in addition to dresses and other clothes, she loved making intricately crocheted blankets, name plaques, puppets, dolls, and Christmas ornaments for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Less known, but equally prodigious, was her skill at drawing: pencil sketches and chalk drawings which she made in her youth, and which she passed on to her grandchildren in her later years, are among their most prized possessions. She was always an enthusiastic reader and storyteller, and loved word games and puzzles. She is preceded in death by her one brother and three sisters: Orville Goodin, Ruth Thompson, and Lucille Brickman, all of Reserve, New Mexico; and Ruby Laney of Luna, New Mexico. She is also preceded in death by her first child, Russell Ellis Altman. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ellis David Altman of Hoboken; and two sons, Stephen Edward Altman (and his wife Jenny Amanda Altman) and Clinton Andrew Altman (and his wife Debi Lynn Altman), both of Hoboken. She is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Tracy Stephen Altman (and his wife Jeannie Smith Altman) and children Stephen Daniel Altman, Sara Margaret Altman, and Elizabeth Audrey Altman; Martin Ellis Altman (and his wife Carolyn Stachura Altman) and children Elise Katherine Altman and Caleb Martin Altman; Kaleb Chase Altman (and his wife Brandi Aldridge Altman) and son Colton Ellis Altman; and Britnee Altman Davis (and her husband William Davis) and children Brody Fisher Youmans and Sydnee Brooks Davis. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. Viewing and visitation will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken, Georgia on Thursday, November 15th, at 10 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Frye Funeral Home of Nahunta will provide the services. She will be buried at the Mt. Calvary cemetery in Hoboken.
