Virgil Rowell

Hickox-Virgil Rowell, 87 of Nahunta, passed away Sunday (July 31, 2016) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Nahunta, Ga., his parents were David Franklin Rowell and Emma Conner Rowell. He was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Scotty Roberson and Dylan Herrin; 6 brothers, Dellie , Norman, Tillman, Leon, Dennis Rowell and Willie White; 4 sisters, Elma Stewart, Pauline Harper, Ida Stone, Mary Harris; a son-in-law , Franklin DePratter; and his in-laws, Ralph and Lois Herrin.

Mr. Rowell loved farming, making cakes, gardening, and was also a Sunday School teacher. He attended to elders and was a servant to all, but most of all he loved his school bus kids and family.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Herrin Rowell, of Hickox; One son and daughter-in-law, Randy Rowell (Denise), of Hickox; three daughters and a son-in-law, Hazel Depratter, of Hickox, Ann Depratter (Lamar), of Hickox, Gail Roberson, of Nahunta; one sister, Lorena Strickland,of Nahunta; a sister-in-law, Lillian Batten,of Nahunta; ten grandchildren, Brian Depratter(Christie), of Hickox, Marlan Depratter (Cayla), of Raybon, Ashleigh Roberson, of Hickox, Amanda Herrin, of Nahunta, Dacia Olson (Eric), of Ludowici, Brandon Rowell (Elizabeth), of Hickox, Jamie Rowell, of Hickox, Erica Rowell (Tyler Johns), of Hickox, Brandy Gill (Robbie), of Offerman; eighteen great grandchildren, Jay, Joey, Kaity, Kelly, Raegan, Caislyn, Micah, and Lila Depratter, Colby and Faith Morris, Blake Raulerson, Braizlyn Albritton, Little Eric Olson, Dylan Herrin, Hunter and Cole Gill, Annilynn and Ross Johns.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (August 2, 2016) starting at 6PM at Hickox Baptist Church, Hickox.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday (August 3, 2016) at 11:00AM at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Giddens and Rev. Jerry Johns officiating.

Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, great grandchildren and a nephew, Brian Depratter, Brandon Rowell, Marlan Depratter, Jay Depratter, Joey Depratter, Colby Morris, Blake Raulerson, Ashleigh Roberson, Alan Strickland, Amanda Herrin, Jamie Rowell, Erica Rowell, Little Eric Olson, Kaity and Kelly Depratter.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
