Walter 'Bo' Melton Batten

Hickox- Walter “Bo” Melton Batten, 91, of Hickox died Thursday morning (November 19, 2015) at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta after an extended illness. Born in Blackshear, GA his parents were Walter Rupert and Alma Herrin Batten. He is also preceded in death by his 3 sisters, Pauline Chandler, Betty Griffis, and Loree Manahan. Bo served in the United States Army and was a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. He farmed most of his life. Mr. Bo loved fishing and gardening and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 69yrs, Lillian Herrin Batten of Hickox; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Donald & Virginia Batten of Yulee, FL., and Danny & Karen Batten of Hickox; 4 grandchildren & their spouses, Shane Batten(Jill) and Lisa Chavers(Jay) all of Fernandina Beach, FL, Daniel McQuittey Batten(Mandy) of Hickox and Caity McDaniel(Frankie) of Hahira, GA; 6 great grandchildren, Cole Chavers, Emilie Batten, Brynna Batten, Gabe Batten, Tate Batten, and Judson McDaniel; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A visitation will be held Saturday evening (November 21, 2015) from 5pm to 7pm at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon (November 22, 2015) at 2pm at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Hickox. Pallbearers will be Daniel Batten, Shane Batten, Frankie McDaniel, Jay Chavers, Cole Chavers, and Joe Herrin.
