Hortense- Wanda Ann Phillips Gailey, 56 of Hortense, passed away Tuesday (September 21, 2021) at Southeast Georgia Health System following a brief illness.
Born in Panama City, FL., her parents were Claude Phillips and Lily Lauderdale Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dennis Gailey, Jr.; two children, Carl Rooks, Jr., and Baby Boy Rooks; and a sister, Thelma Ryals.
Wanda worked many years for Brantley County Schools as a Bus Driver. She attended Bay Harbor Brantley Church of God and enjoyed cooking, camping, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Kevin Rooks (Kelley Ann), of Waynesville, and Drayton Gailey, also of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Rylee Rooks and Hailey Rooks; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Myers (Billy), of Nahunta, Tammy King (Preston), of Hortense, Lorraine Morgan (Jeff), of Nahunta; Honorary sister, Marsha Silberstein, of Maryland. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside Services will be held Friday (September 24, 2021) at 3PM at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Gill officiating. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service, at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Preston King, Drayton Gailey, Jason Rooks, Scott Perry, Jeffery Morgan, Chris Morgan, and William Myers.
Due to COVID-19, we would like to ask all to please follow the rules for social distancing and face mask, are highly recommended at the service. Also, anyone who does not feel comfortable with attending the services the family would like for you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
