William L. Phillips

William L. (Bill) Phillips, 85 of Waynesville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (April 7, 2015), at Hospice of the Golden Isles, in Brunswick, GA. William was born to L.W. and Cora Lee Phillips at Garden City, Georgia. After graduation from high school in 1948, he devoted the next twenty years to a career in the U.S. Air Force, reaching the grade of Senior Master Sergeant. William was stationed in Japan when the Korean War began and spent three years there in military support. He also served a short tour in Germany before returning home to several assignments with his last five years assigned to the Pentagon, then retiring in 1968. William then began a career in banking, ending his employment after twenty four years, retiring as First Vice President from SunTrust Bank, of Brunswick in 1994. He was preceded in death by Barbara A. Phillips, his wife of 58 years, in November of 2013. He is survived by 2 daughters, Yvonne Lee King (Carrol), of Waynesville and Debra A. Phillips, of Brunswick, and a son, William E. "Wild Bill" Phillips, of Brunswick. Also, three grandchildren, Holly Lynn Durden (Adam), of Hortense, Ashley Nichole Simmons (Chris), of Jesup, and Tyrus Skipper, of Brunswick, two great grandchildren, Tyler Ray Durden and Shae Simmons, and a number of cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday (April 9, 2015) from 6PM-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held Friday morning (April 10, 2015) at 11AM at Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Carson officiating. Private entombment services will follow and be held at 2PM in the Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery, Brunswick, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Pat Browning, Michael Stephens, Joe Herrin, Joey Dykes, Larry Corbitt, and Jerry Hutcheson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Nahunta First Baptist Church, Senior Men's Sunday School Class, and The Golden Oldies Singing Group. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, in Brunswick, GA; at 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA. 31525.
