William O. Simmons

William O. (Bill) Simmons, 79, of Waynesville died Sunday evening (August 15, 2010) at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick after an extended illness. Born in Sparta, GA, he was the son of John Wesley Simmons, Jr. and Jewell Hays Simmons. He was preceded in death his parents and also, by one brother, J.W. Simmons, III and 2 sisters, Peggy Howell and Beverly Davis. Bill served in the U.S. Navy , the U.S. Air Force Reserve and the U.S. National Guard. He was also nuclear health physicist for many nuclear power plants. After retiring, he drove a school bus driver for Glynn and the Brantley Co School systems. He was a member of Nahunta First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was also an ordained minister. Survivors include his wife of 58yrs, Jean K. Simmons of Waynesville; a son , William O. & Simmons, Jr.(Peggy) of Brunswick; daughter, Teri Simmons of Waynesville and Donna Lockhart (Don) of Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Scott Whisenant, Jackie Lockhart (Kristi), Brooke Sellers (Jay) and Corey Simmons; 2 great grandchildren, Xandria and Gavin Whisenant of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11 A.M. at Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Carson officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donation may be sent to Nahunta First Baptist Church, P.O Box 587 Nahunta, GA 31553 and Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA, 31525.
